Campus Muster Is Here

In today’s evolving higher education landscape, every student who walks through our doors brings a unique story, a distinct set of experiences, and a real set of needs. Our campuses are more diverse than ever. First-generation college students navigating unfamiliar systems, low-income learners balancing work and family alongside coursework, underresourced students facing barriers that others never see, and military-connected learners managing the complex transition from service to academic life. Yet the institutions designed to support them often struggle to keep pace, burdened by underresourced programs, inconsistent policies, and a lack of coordinated campus readiness.
 
As an educator, I’m passionate about the success and well-being of all students, and particularly those who face the greatest obstacles to getting there. I launched this project to empower higher education professionals to improve student outcomes and enhance the campus experience for every learner they serve. The students who need us most are often the least likely to ask for help, the least visible in institutional data, and the most affected when our systems fall short. One of the driving forces behind this project is the recognition that higher education professionals across roles, including faculty, advisors, counselors, administrators, and student service staff, frequently lack the training, tools, and resources needed to serve today’s diverse student populations well. This challenge is made worse by a troubling trend across higher education: as colleges and universities face mounting budget pressures, professional development is often the first line item to be cut. The result is a workforce that is committed and hardworking, but increasingly left without the support needed to grow, adapt, and meet students where they are. Understanding the barriers students face, whether financial, cultural, systemic, or personal, is essential to providing support that is meaningful, practical, and equitable.

Our Mission

Campus Muster exists to educate, equip, and inspire higher education professionals to better serve all students, with a particular focus on those who face the greatest barriers to success: first-generation, low-income, underresourced, and military-connected learners.

We do this through three commitments:
  • Educate: Delivering research-informed content that keeps campus professionals current on policy, best practices, and the evolving needs of diverse student populations
  • Equip: Providing practical tools, toolkits, and professional development resources that translate knowledge into action
  • Inspire: Amplifying stories, voices, and models of excellence that motivate campus communities to do and be better

Supporting students well means more than good intentions. It means investing in faculty and staff development, refining institutional policies, removing systemic barriers, and building practices that account for the real complexity of students’ lives. It means ensuring that students don’t just enroll. They persist, complete their studies, and thrive. In future content, you can expect:
